DU/DR 30, 33, 50, and 85 Fans - Roof To Wall Mount Conversion

DU/DR 30, 33, 50, and 85 Fans - Roof To Wall Mount Conversion

This guide is for converting Upblast and Downblast fans from roof mounted to wall mounted.  When ordered new from the factory and selected for wall mounted, these modifications are not required.
For DU/DR 180 and larger, wall mounted fans are highly discouraged.  Above DU240 are not approved for wall mounting.  These instructions are not applicable for 180 and larger fans.

For DU/DR 10 and 12 sizes, no changes are required for the isolators.

To convert a fan from roof mount to wall mount, the rubber vibration isolators must be removed, the disconnect switch must be re-oriented so that water cannot enter from the base, and the fan needs to be oriented so the hinge opens from the top, with the grease drain tube pointing down if/as applicable.

Please see the steps below detailing this conversion.

You will need 8 of the below whiz nuts per fan model being converted:
For the DU/DR30, DU/DR33, and DU/DR50 models, use part number 800036 - Nut Whiz 8-32, Steel.
For the DU/DR85 model, use part number 800030 - Nut Whiz 10-32, SFLN1032Z, Steel, Large Flange.

Notes
Note:
Telco BMN42 motors use 800036 - 8-32 whiz nuts.
Telco BMN48 motors use 800030 - 10-32 whiz nuts.

InfoStep 1: Remove the motor.  Remove the rubber vibration isolators. After the vibration isolators are removed, thread the appropriate size whiz nut on each motor stud. The whiz nuts should be installed as shown below and tightened against the existing nuts on the motor housing. This is very important as it creates additional air space between the motor and the top plate, which is needed for proper motor cooling.

InfoStep 2: Once the whiz nuts are installed as shown in Step 1, align the motor studs with the holes in the top plate.

Info
Step 3: Install the remaining whiz nuts as shown below, and tighten to hold the motor in place.

Info
Step 4: Remove the Hubble disconnect from the unit, rotate 90 degrees, and reinstall with the unit on the side of fan and the disconnect switch on the bottom

Info
Step 5:  Ensure the unit has a heavy duty hinge kit.  Install the hinges on the top.  Additional bracing of the through wall curb may be required if not ordered from the factory for wall mounting.  Care shall be taken when opening and closing the fan to prevent injury due to the weight.
